Celebrating 25 years of service to our downtown community and those who have made it great

ATLANTA (March 2, 2023)  On March 5th 1998, Max Lager’s American Grill & Brewery opened its doors at the corner of Peachtree St. and West Peachtree St. in the heart of Downtown Atlanta.  Now recognized as the oldest brewpub in Georgia, Max Lager’s is realizing what few restaurants ever achieve – its 25th anniversary.

“When we were initially developing Max Lager’s, people thought we were crazy. Everyone thought that Downtown Atlanta could not sustain independent restaurants, let alone a large-scale brewery restaurant. Now, when people say how lucky we are to be downtown with the Aquarium, The World of Coke, and the many other attractions and activities, we just smile and know that our hard work in the early years had a small part to play in the evolution of what Downtown Atlanta has become,” muses Alan LeBlanc, co-founder along with Cindy LeBlanc, and John Roberts.

Playing a substantial role in the burgeoning Georgia brewing industry, Max Lager’s Head Brewer and co-founder John “JR” Roberts has mentored numerous local brewers including, Tim Schiavone of Wrecking Bar Brewpub, Andy Tan of Hopstix, and Anthony Morovich of Pontoon Brewery.

In 2005, Max Lager’s created the Drink Beer Do GoodÔ program which has provided thousands of dollars to support those in need through organizations such as Gateway Center, Atlanta Union Mission, and Project Open Hand.

During Max Lager’s Covid closing, a complete refresh was undertaken. Installing wood floors, repainting the dining rooms, updating light fixtures, and rebuilding the restrooms have prepared the restaurant for years to come.

The anniversary celebration will be held throughout March and April, culminating with the Anniversary Party on Saturday, April 22nd – the 25th anniversary of the original Grand Opening party.  Details will be available on our Instagram @maxlagers and our website.
